$170M Hospital Development Set to Go

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA-With a recent approval from the city council here, Camino Medical Group is set to break ground in the first quarter of 2005 for a 250,000-sf outpatient medical center on nine acres near the intersection of El Camino Real and Highway 85.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA-Construction of a 250,000-sf hospital is set to start here early next year now that the city council has signed off on the $170-million project. The three-story development, by Camino Medical Group, is expected to be complete in 2007.The development site is nine acres near the intersection of El Camino Real and Highway 85. The site was home to the old Emporium department store that closed nearly a decade ago. The Emporium building will be razed in January and construction on the hospital will start shortly thereafter, according to the Camino Medical Group.The hospital will include primary and specialty physician services, an out-patient Surgi-Center, an urgent care center, diagnostic radiology and laboratory departments, a pharmacy, and conference rooms for health education and community workshops. An adjacent 1,100-car parking structure with one level below grade and one level at grade will be located behind the building and be buffered from the neighboring residential area by landscaping. Nine of CMG’s existing 15 sites will be consolidated into the new facility. Approximately 100 physicians and 310 nurses, technicians and staff will work at the site. The nonprofit Camino Medical Group is a division of Palo Alto Medical Foundation, which is an affiliate of Sutter Health in Sacramento. Sutter Health will help finance the project, according to the announcement.
