Suburb Advances Two Hotel Proposals

ROYAL OAK, MI-City officials have given tentative approval for two Downtown hotels, including one at Woodward and the westbound I-696 service drive that has been vacant since the expressway was built.

ROYAL OAK, MI-The city’s Downtown Development Authority has given tentative approval to two proposals to build hotels. The first site, at Woodward and the westbound I-696 service drive, has long been considered for a hotel–almost since the land became vacant after construction of I-696 more than two decades ago.

Southfield-based Schostak Bros. proposed a hotel for the site last year and also would like to include an office tower that would house the Jim Fresard Pontiac-Buick auto showroom on the first floor. The dealership is now about a mile north of the site. If approved, adjacent parking decks allow for new car storage.
