Rochester-based General Sports & Entertainment L.L.C., has made a proposal to the city council to develop a minor-league baseball park in the city. General Sports had previously been in negotiations with Oakland University about a proposed ballpark development. Another group had been talking with Mount Clemens about a possible baseball stadium. While the Mount Clemens talks have gone dormant, Ted Montgomery, media-relations director for Oakland University, said negotiations between the baseball group and the school continue.

Andrew Appleby, General Sports president and chief executive officer, says the group also is considering other sites in Oakland County with a goal of opening a stadium by May 2006. The Troy city council is reviewing the proposal for a minor-league park that would be built onpublicly owned land at the Troy Civic Center at I-75 and Big Beaver Road. The park would be built using private funds, but the Troy Downtown Development Authority could finance some infrastructure improvements. No timeline for a decision by Troy city leaders has been set.
