BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI-An Oakland County sandwich chain is looking at Macomb County as a principal focus of its expansion efforts over the next two years. Bloomfield Hills-based Rio Wraps will be opening a newlocation on Hall Road in Clinton Township later this week.

The franchise will be the chain's fourth location in the county. Rio Wraps opened its first location, in Farmington Hills, in 2000. Since then, the chain has grown to include six company-owned stores and, with the opening of the Clinton Township location, 14 franchises.

"We're pretty well situated in Oakland County right now," says Tom Stegeman, one of three partners in the chain. "We expect the bulk of our growth over the next 18 to 24 months to come in Macomb County. When we bring on franchisees, we bring them on with the expectation that they will open several locations in a general area. We don't require that, but that's been how it has worked out."

In addition to targeting Macomb County for new franchise growth, Stegeman said Rio Wraps recently signed a contract with a developer to open franchises in southwestern Florida. Several of the Rio Wraps in the metropolitan Detroit area are co-branded with Pizza Papalis locations. The owners of the Rio Wraps chain also own the nine-location Pizza Papalis chain.
