The expansion is expected to create 150 new jobs. Lapeer Metal Stamping is a Tier One supplier of high-quality metal stampings and assemblies for the automotive industry.
The Michigan Economic Development Corp. is providing a $1.2-million grant to Sebewaing to help fund infrastructure improvements necessary to support the move. Lapeer Metal already has existing operations nearby in Sebewaing.
Sebewaing will use the funding for road, water and sewer improvements as well as training for new employees. Sebewaing will contribute an additional $280,000 to support the expansion.
"Lapeer Metal Stamping's decision to locate in the village of Sebewaing will create an enormous boost to the local economy," says Carl Osentoski, executive director of the Huron County Economic Development Corp. "The grant will greatly assist the community in providing updated infrastructure to the company."
"The success of this project is two-fold," MEDC president and chief executive officer Don Jakeway says. "The grant will not only provide critical infrastructure to support the reuse of an old facility but provide jobs and opportunity for local residents."
