GlobeSt.com UPDATE: Granholm Vows to Fight for Toyota Land Sale

DETROIT-Michigan's governor says she will act to ensure that Toyota land deal goes through after a circuit court judge questioned the constitutionality of legislation passed to aid Toyota's purchase of a 690-acre state-owned parcel for a research center.

DETROIT-Gov. Jennifer Granholm tells GlobeSt.com she will consider emergency legislation and any other necessary steps to ensure Toyota Motor Co. gets a parcel of land near Ann Arbor for a research center. Earlier this week, an Ingham County Circuit Court judge questioned the constitutionality of legislation passed last year that would allow Toyota to purchase the 690-acre state-owned parcel in Washtenaw County’s York Township.

As GlobeSt.com reported on Monday, Judge Joyce Draganchuk didn’t say the legislation was unconstitutional, but she declined to rule on the matter, meaning the issue must be resolved in an Appeals Court. Granholm vowed Wednesday to have the matter brought to the state court of appeals “as quickly as is legally possible.”

“Believe me, this is not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination,” Granholm said. “One way or another, we are going to make sure that this is a reality.”
