WASHINGTON, DC-Construction activity on the new 230,000-sf, mixed-use building to go up at 620 F St. NW has gotten under way. The 11-story structure is being developed by two organizations that will make their homes in the building. The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers will keep its headquarters in 120,000 sf of office space on the top 5.5 floors; and the Shakespeare Theatre will open its second venue, to be known as the Harman Center for the Arts, in 110,000 sf of space on the first 5.5 floors.

Clark Construction Group LLC is at the helm, spearheading construction under the guidance of CarrAmerica Urban Development LLC, which is acting as the property owners’ representative. BAC’s segment of the facility is expected to cost $61 million, while the Shakespeare Theatre will spend $77.9 million to complete the Harman Center.

With the MCI Center located a stone’s throw away and the National Mall just blocks off, 620 F St. will rise up in the midst of a burgeoning area that is on its way to becoming a live-work-play destination. “The Shakespeare Theatre and BAC,” says CarrAmerica president Robert O. Carr, “are together making an enormous contribution to the quality of life in the Pennsylvania Quarter neighborhood.”
