Joe Taylor Of NAIOP

In December, Joe Taylor took the reins of chairman at the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. Leading the association is a job the president and CEO of New Jersey-based Matrix Development is well equipped to do–he joined NAIOP in 1990 and quickly became involved in the New Jersey chapter, even serving as its president for two terms in 1997 and 1998. Several years ago, he moved to the national stage, joining the board of directors in 1999. Taylor, along with the association’s staff headed by president Thomas Bisacquino, stands ready to propel NAIOP down the often confusing road of urban mixed-use development and toward his goal of membership diversification.

GlobeSt.com: As an organization, what are your goals this year?

Taylor: We will continue to increase membership, which we do by enhancing chapter support, legislation support and lobbying support; expand chapter presence in a couple of new markets like Detroit and other targeted submarkets; and, a personal drive of mine, to add both gender and racial diversity to the membership and board of directors.
