Tribe Goes To Court to Block Casino Sale

DETROIT-The Lac Vieux Desert Band Native American tribe is opposing the pending sale of a Detroit casino, a requirement prompted by the merger of MGM Mirage and Mandalay Resort Group.

DETROIT-A Native American tribe is opposing the expected sale of one of three Detroit casinos. The sale of the MGM Grand or the MotorCity casino in Detroit is expected soon because of state law that limits a company to owning an interest in only one casino.

The parent companies of the MGM Grand and MotorCity casinos, MGM Mirage and Mandalay Resort Group, are in the process of completing a merger. The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, based in the western Upper Peninsula, says it filed a notice of intent to oppose the sale with the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.
