CHICAGO-The city’s department of planning and development has put out a call for retail developers willing to build on 1.4 acres in the 4000 block of W. Washington Boulevard. Project manager James Thompson notes 1,500 new residential units are being built within two miles of the city-owned parcels located at 4015-45 W. Washington Blvd., which have been used for parking since the 1950s.

The city has set a target price of $615,000, based on a December appraisal, Thompson told the community development commission recently. Besides potential financial assistance from a location within an Enterprise Zone and tax increment financing district, the property also may benefit from additional traffic generated by the Garfield Park Conservatory about one mile east, he noted. Proposals are due May 4.
