Allina Adds 85,000 SF to Midtown Lease

MINNEAPOLIS-The healthcare provider will have 1,500 employees at its new headquarters at Midtown Exchange, the former 1.1-million-sf Sears building in south Minneapolis. Allina will lease 340,000 sf at the building, which will begin to open later this year and be completed next year.

MINNEAPOLIS-Allina Hospitals & Clinics has signed on for an additional 85,000 sf at the Midtown Exchange, the former Sears building at Lake Street and Chicago Avenue that is undergoing a major renovation by Ryan Cos. Allina, a locally based hospital and health clinic operator, will occupy 340,000 sf of the nearly 1.1 million sf of office space at Allina Commons, the health system’s new headquarters in Midtown Exchange.

Allina will add an additional 475 employees at the site, bringing its total number of employees to nearly 1,500 planned to work at Midtown Exchange by mid 2006. Allina is the anchor tenant of the $189-million mixed-use development on the former Sears site at Lake Street and Chicago Avenue in south Minneapolis.

“Allina’s commitment to…south Minneapolis has been a catalyst for bringing energy and investment to the Midtown Exchange project,” says Rick Collins, vice president of development at Ryan, the locally based commercial real estate developer. Of Midtown Exchange’s 1.1 million sf, only about 77,000 sf remain available for lease, according to Ryan officials.
