GSE says now, though, that it is still considering building a stadium in order to bring a team to metro Detroit and that Troy remains on the list of possible locations. GSE did not state an exact location in Troy.

"I expect to make a decision on where to build the stadium within the next 30 days, but Troy is one of the finalists," says Andy Appleby, owner of General Sports and Entertainment. Appleby says he's also looking at sites in four other communities across Metro Detroit, but wouldn't name them.

Mayor Louise Schilling, who voted in favor of the stadium, is glad Appleby is still considering Troy. "I think it's a wonderful, creative idea," she says. "I do know it will happen in Oakland County, and I hope it will be in Troy."

Last year, General Sports and Entertainment, proposed to develop, manage and operate the ballpark north of the Troy Marriott on Big Beaver Road. The company proposed to pay $1.75 million to build the stadium.
