WASHINGTON, DC-Harris Teeter, the Matthews, NC-based food market, has put in a bid to open up in a Washington, DC location. The grocery store is set to occupy a 38,600-sf space within the Citadel building, a vacant 41,000-sf structure at Kalorama Rd. and 17th St. NW in trendy Adams Morgan. Owned by Douglas Development, the 58-year-old property will be redeveloped by Faison Associates to accommodate the grocery store.

"In 2005, we're wholly focused on our neighborhoods: creating jobs, building homes, and putting services where people need them--on the streets and avenues they call home," says Stanley Jackson, Washington, DC deputy mayor for planning and economic development. "By bringing Harris Teeter to Adams Morgan, we're doing just that."

The locale will open fall 2006, and will mark Harris Teeter's entrée into the DC market; the chain currently has locations in Virginia, as well. Madison Retail Group is the exclusive broker for Harris Teeter and represented the chain in negotiations with Douglas Development.
