Decision Expected Soon for $350M Horse Track Complex

ROMULUS, MI-Acting Racing Commissioner Christine White is said to be close to making a decision on Magna Entertainment's plan to build an entertainment complex, resort and sports club near Metro Airport.

ROMULUS-The state’s racing commissioner is expected to make a decision soon on a pending request to allow a developer build a new horse track near Metro Airport. A state spokesman says a decision is coming soon from acting racing commissioner Christine White to approve or deny a license to Magna Entertainment, which wants to build a $350-million horse-racing complex near the airport.

“We have to be fair across the board and meet with all the applicants and determine what changes have been made to the original proposals that would determine the outcome,” says Dominic Perrone. In late February, Wayne County executive Robert Ficano endorsed the project in his state of the county address.

Two years ago, Magna Entertainment paid $28 million for property at Vining Road and Interstate 94 to build the project. Plans include an entertainment complex, resort and sports club.
