At 92nd Street and Mackinaw Avenue, Pathway Senior Living is acquiring 13 parcels from the city, assembling a 45,116-sf site for its five-story, 113-unit senior supportive living building. Likewise, the 24,489-sf site at the southwest corner of Grand and Newcastle avenues has long been vacant. The four-story, 108-unit building will be built among a string of smaller commercial properties and auto dealerships on Grand Avenue, with single-family homes on the side streets.

Robert Helle of Pathway Senior Living tells GlobeSt.com his company hopes to begin construction on both buildings next spring, with completion expected in December 2007. Although he declined to discuss cost estimates, other senior living developments in the city are being built in the neighborhood of $150,000 per unit, which would put the value of the Pathway Senior Living developments at more than $16 million each.

Pathway Senior Living is including environmentally friendly "green" elements in its building designs. The Grand and Newcastle building includes a second-story roof garden.
