Building Begins on Central Station's Prairie Pointe

CHICAGO-LaGrange, IL-based Gammonley Group and James McHugh Construction Co. are working on their second South Loop project. The $45-million, 156-unit tower and five townhouses at 1600 S. Prairie Ave. is expected to be completed in July 2006.

CHICAGO-Construction has begun on the $45-million Prairie Pointe condominium tower, one of the latest additions to the South Loop multifamily market. LaGrange, IL-based Gammonley Group is the developer of the 161-unit project, while James McHugh Construction Co. is building the tower at 1600 S. Prairie Ave. in the Central Station neighborhood.

The 26-story building, with 156 condominiums and five townhouses, is the second involving Gammonley Group and McHugh Construction. The latter recently finished a tower for Gammonley Group at 1111 S. Wabash Ave., but the next venture may be more challenging. McHugh Construction project manager Wayne Anderson notes the sites bumps up against an electrical substation used by Metra to power commuter rail lines.
