Multifamily Developer Gets Zoning Approval

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI-Rezoning clears the way for developer Auburn Hixson to build 600 condominium and single-family homes surrounding a 57-acre man-made lake, replacing a soccer dome and a concrete-crushing business.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI-A 117-acre parcel along Auburn Road near Ryan Road could become the site of a new condominium development after officials in Shelby Township recently approved rezoning for the area. By a 5-2 vote, the board of trustees approved a request from developer Auburn Hixson to rezone the property from light manufacturing to R-10, multiple family.

Approval of the rezoning would clear the way for the developer to construct 600 condominium and single-family homes surrounding a 57-acre man-made lake. A soccer dome and a concrete-crushing business occupy the property and would be relocated.

Although the new zoning would permit the construction of apartments, developer Thomas Turnbull told the board none of the units will be marketed as rental property. “All for sale,” Turnbull says. “We’re not looking at rentals at all.”
