SEATTLE-Locally based Mackay Restaurant Group has completed the 18-room inn it has been building out above its El Gaucho steakhouse and, below that, its basement jazz bar, the Pampas Room, in the city’s Belltown neighborhood. The rooms are decorated in the 1950′s “retro-swank” luxury theme of the restaurant and average $155 to $345 per night. Located on First Avenue at Wall Street, the company master leased the three-story, 30,000-sf building that houses the restaurant and the inn last summer. Paul Mackay, proprietor of Mackay Restaurant Group, was unavailable Tuesday for comment. In November, when plans for the inn were announced, Chad Mackay told GlobeSt.com that the company holds an option to purchase it outright. The building’s other establishment is a 40-seat theater called Big Picture.While more one-stop shops for date night are not currently in the offing, the company is in the process of opening a new seafood restaurant in Downtown Tacoma in June. Chad Mackay tells GlobeSt.com the restaurant, Sea Grill, will be 6,300 sf and located across from the city’s new convention center and a Marriott hotel in the new Rainier Pacific Building. Mackay operates El Gaucho, Waterfront Seafood Grill, Troiani Italian Steakhouse and Rippe’s-branded restaurants in the Puget Sound region. It also operates an El Gaucho restaurant in Portland, OR. The new Tacoma restaurant is part of Mackay Restaurant Group’s West Coast expansion. “We are actively looking in San Diego and in Los Angeles near Staples Arena; we will break out of the Northwest next year,” Chad Mackay told GlobeSt.com late last year.
