City Takes Deed to 48,606-SF Office Building for $7M

SCOTTSDALE, AZ-City officials plan to use the class B office building for the administrative offices of fire and police departments, just like the former tenant who terminated a build-to-suit lease after losing a municipal contract.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ-A local owner has sold a build-to-suit that housed Rural/Metro Corp.’s headquarters for the past 15 years. The 48,606-sf, class B office building came to market after the lone tenant terminated its lease after losing a municipal contract to provide fire department services.

The City of Scottsdale acquired the 15-year-old building from BDY Associates LLP for $7.2 million. Dennis Desmond, senior vice president in Phoenix for Trammell Crow Co., tells GlobeSt.com that the one-story building at 8401 E. Indian School Rd. received a lot of interest, but the city was the first to step up and make an offer. “They will use the building for the same thing that Rural/Metro used it for,” he adds. The city plans to house the administrative offices for fire and police departments in the structure plus use any extra space as overflow for other municipal offices. The city staffs will move into the building by July 1.
