Hannspree Opening First US Stores

SAN FRANCISCO-The Taiwan-based maker of small and medium-sized LCD televisions shaped like baseballs and teddy bears, among other things, will open a two-level store in the Union Square Shopping area here in August, two months after its first US store is scheduled to open in the Rodeo Drive area of Beverly Hills.

SAN FRANCISCO-Hannspree, a Taiwan-based maker of small and medium-sized LCD televisions encased in housings designed to resemble everything from apples to soccer balls to stuffed animals, will open a two-level store in the Union Square Shopping area here in August. It will be the second Hannspree store in the US. The first will open in June in the Rodeo Drive area of Beverly Hills.In San Francisco, Hannspree leased about 18,000 sf on three levels (one for storage) at 400 Sutter St. in the Union Square shopping district. The building is owned by Adolph Capurro of Capurro Properties. The lease is for 10 years. The going lease rate in the area is in the $50-per-sf range. Staubach Retail’s locally based executive vice president and managing principal Matt Alexander represented Hannspree in the lease along with partner Liz Gallagher. Alexander tells GlobeSt.com that Hannspree is looking to open additional stores in 2006 in markets such as Las Vegas and Seattle.Hannspree is an affiliate of Taiwan-based HannStar Display. The company reportedly has licensing agreements with the NBA, NFL, MLB as well as Warner Bros. and Disney.
