BALTIMORE-Plans for the city’s 750-room Baltimore Convention Center Headquarters Hotel have taken a leap toward realization now that the Baltimore Development Corp. has pre-qualified five firms to submit design-build proposals for the 750-room lodging facility. The five contenders–Bethesda’s Bovis Lend Lease Inc.; Faulkner USA of Austin, TX; Chantilly, VA’s Hensel Phelps Construction Co.; Hunt Construction Group out of Tampa, FL; and Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. in Baltimore–are expected to submit their proposals to BDC by noon May 9.

The maximum value of bonds the city expects to issue to fund the hard costs of project is $290 million. Proposals must provide BDC with a preliminary guaranteed maximum price on soft costs not to exceed $195 million.
