Developer Plans $125M Condo for Gateway

NORFOLK, VA-City officials plans for a new $125 million condominium project, the Spectrum at Willoughby Pointe, that would sit at the entrance of the city, which is marked by the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Snug Harbor Development proposed the residential project that will feature 337 units fronting the marina on a 15-acre parcel. Futura Group LLC is on board to handle construction. If the project receives all necessary approvals, there will first have to be some demolition activity; the site is currently home to a Days Inn Hotel and a restaurant.

A 3.5-mile long crossing at I-65, the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel connects Norfolk with the neighboring city of Hampton. The Spectrum is placed at one end of the tunnel to serve as the welcoming landmark into Norfolk. There is a possibility the developer could get permission from the city to expand the slips by 21 to 80. Further details of the condominium complex are not yet in place as the project is only in the beginning stages.
