GlobeSt.com UPDATE: eBay Pays $16M for 141,000-SF Data Center

PHOENIX-After looking at several Southwest cities, eBay Inc. chooses the Valley to expand its data center network. The Internet auction company pays $16.3 million for the Switch X building at 4010 N. 3rd St.

PHOENIX-Internet auction company, eBay Inc., will set up a data center in the Valley. The San Jose, CA-based company has paid $16.3 million for the 141,000-sf Switch X building, a late 1990s spec project that’s never been occupied.

Local developer Cole Phoenix Telecom sold the 4010 N. 3rd St. property to the Denver-based cyber-auction kingpin. “eBay looked a several Southwest cities for its expansion data center,” Andy Markham, a vice president with Grubb & Ellis BRE Commercial LLC, tells GlobeSt.com. “They choose Phoenix because it has a low probability of natural disasters.” For previous story, click here.
