Zoning and Tax Breaks Lure Businesses to Town

ROSEVILLE, MI-Industrial development districts and tax breaks prompt Midwest Gear & Tool Inc. and Wolverine Plating Corp. to move into the suburb.

ROSEVILLE, MI-Thanks to the establishment of industrial development districts and tax breaks, two new companies are expected to take up residence in Roseville in the next few months. “We’re very excited and hope to keep getting new companies here within the city,” says city manager Steve Truman.

Industrial facilities tax exemption certificates are tax abatements that formally cut in half the tax for businesses over a set number of years. In this case, both businesses are eligible for the maximum 12-year abatement.

The industrial development districts are for zoning purposes. Unlike other communities that set up specific areas for the districts, Truman says Roseville does it on a case-by-case basis.
