The company's numbers were hurt by a decrease in guest counts and average check size, executives said during a conference call yesterday. Meat prices are also, increasing, though that was offset by lower costs in potatoes, poultry and produce.
During the quarter Lone Star opened one Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon in Dundee, MI, on April 4. The company has six stores under construction and 22 new units are in the negotiation process. "We're excited about being back in the growth mode," said Jamie Coulter, Lone Star's CEO.
Lone Star's five Del Frisco Double Eagle Steak House restaurants were the best-performing chain in the company, posting a same-store sales jump of 10.8%. Lone Star Steakhouses, 252 of which are operated by the company, dropped by the most, by 2.9%.
Same-store sales at its 15-restaurant Sullivan's Steakhouse chain shot up by 2.3%; the company's 20 Texas Land and Cattle Steak Houses posted a 4.4% rise. (Lone Star acquired Texas Land and Cattle last year for about $20 million.
