St. Paul Lands State Money for Key Transit Projects

ST. PAUL-As part of the state's $886-million bonding bill, the city will get money for a light rail connecting downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis, as well as money to shore up Holman Field against flooding from nearby Mississippi River. Both projects were top priorities with St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce.

ST. PAUL-Minnesota’s recent $886-million bonding bill carried two critical projects for the City of St. Paul: Central Corridor transit line, the 11-mile stretch along University Avenue connecting Downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis, and shoring up Holman Field, St. Paul’s Downtown airport.

The Central Corridor transit line received the requested $5.25 million for preliminary engineering and Holman Field received $1 million for floodwall construction. The latter would leverage at least an additional $20 million in other governmental funding.

“They are crucial to developing a multi-modal transportation system in the region,” says Rick Beeson, chairman of the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce and president of Park Midway Bank.
