Most recently company executives announced plans to open a Virginia Beach, VA, restaurant, in May. In January, officials said they planned to enter the Sacramento, CA, market and open a location there in the summer. Other locations to open this year are in Boston and Biloxi, MS.

Ruth's Chris was founded in 1965 by Ruth Fertel. Its 86 units are across the US, as well as in Hong Kong, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The chain bills itself as "the largest upscale steakhouse company in the world."

Ruth's Chris is not the only retailer to file for an IPO so far this year. Other chains that have done so include Everett, WA-based action-sports retailer Zumiez, as well as Columbus, OH-based shoe seller DSW, which is currently owned by Retail Ventures.
