According to a Georgetown Prep Alumni Newsletter from Fall 2002, the school's existing athletic center has long paled in comparison to that of neighboring prep schools, offering only 36,000 sf of space. Plans to construct the facility originated in 1998.

Designed by Leo A. Daly, the three-story multi-purpose athletic facility will encompass such offerings as a 6,000-sf fitness room, new locker rooms, administrative offices, a 200-meter indoor track, a 1,000-seat gymnasium and a field house to replace the existing 45-year old field house. Hess's job will also include development of outdoor athletic fields, roadways and parking areas.
