GlobeSt.com UPDATE: Farmer Jack Confirms Store Closings

DETROIT-Farmer Jack says it will close 11 stores in the metro area, but remains mum on whether the company plans to sell the entire chain.

DETROIT-Farmer Jack supermarkets confirmed Thursday that nine of its 10 Food Basics stores in the metro region are closing. Two Farmer Jack stores are also closing.

Parent company Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc. (A&P) said three Food Basics stores in Detroit and one each in Harper Woods, Highland Park, Lincoln Park,Melvindale, Sterling Heights and Wayne would be closing by the end of July. In addition, the New Jersey-based supermarket chain said it would close three Food Basics stores in the Toledo, OH area, and close one Farmer Jack store in each Southfield and Waterford. A Dearborn Heights Food Basics store will remain open.
