"The University of Michigan was founded in Detroit inAugust 1817, and we have remained committed andconnected," university President Mary Sue Colemansays. "Providing a home for our many Detroit projectsin the heart of the city's cultural center makes usfar more visible and accessible and enables us to be apart of its revitalization."
The university's annual cost to maintain andoperate the center would be $512,000. The facility isto open this fall.The Orchestra Place office building is across thestreet from the Max M. Fisher Music Center, home ofthe Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
