In a related request submitted to Washtenaw County's York Township, the Japanese automaker is seeking a tax abatement on the project, putting the value of the development at $102.2 million. According to a Toyota spokesman, the company envisions a clustered complex of about 25 acres of offices, 65 acres of labs, 80 acres for parking and 375 acres for future development. A park-like open space will surround the buildings. Toyota also plans to develop a test track on the property.
The Michigan Economic Development Corp. has approved $38.9 million worth of tax credits for the project under a deal worked out by Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Toyota has agreed to buy the 690-acre parcel from the state for $11 million. The first phase of the project is expected to bring in $100 million in state tax revenues in the next 20 years and create 400 jobs.
