YORK TOWNSHIP, MI-Toyota has given the first details on its plans for a research and development complex on 690 acres of state land it is purchasing near Ann Arbor. The Toyota Technical Center USA Inc. has filed preliminary plans for an initial phase of the project to involve the construction of approximately 350,000 sf of office, research and laboratory space at the site.

In a related request submitted to Washtenaw County’s York Township, the Japanese automaker is seeking a tax abatement on the project, putting the value of the development at $102.2 million. According to a Toyota spokesman, the company envisions a clustered complex of about 25 acres of offices, 65 acres of labs, 80 acres for parking and 375 acres for future development. A park-like open space will surround the buildings. Toyota also plans to develop a test track on the property.
