GlobeSt.com UPDATE: Three-way Fight for Maple Grove Hospital

MAPLE GROVE, MN-A Senate committee wants an "impartial review" for who is selected to build a new hospital for the Northwest suburbs. Last month, a House committee appeared to give the edge to North Memorial.

MAPLE GROVE, MN-After North Memorial got a nod from a Minnesota House of Representatives committee as the favorite to develop a new hospital in the northwest suburbs, a state Senate committee recently voted to establish an impartial review process for which the three hospital operators vying to build the new hospital.

The Minnesota Senate Finance Committee voted late Wednesday for legislation establishing an “objective and fair selection process” for a new hospital to serve Maple Grove and surrounding suburbs. The bill, authored by Sen. Warren Limmer, (R- Maple Grove) authorizes construction of a new hospital here and creates an impartial process through the Department of Health for selecting among three competing hospital proposals.

“An impartial review process, not a political process, is the way to assure that the proposal best able to meet residents,” says David Wessner, chief executive officer of Park Nicollet Health Services.
