Rosedale Adds 182,000-SF Lifestyle Expansion

ROSEVILLE, MN-The plan would create a hybrid mall at Rosedale, the regional mall built in 1969 and extensively renovated in 1992. The mixed-use, open-air concept would combine with the 157 stores inside the mall, including anchors Marshall Field's, J.C. Penney and Herberger's.

ROSEVILLE, MN-Rosedale Center will tear down the former Mervyn’s department store on the mall’s east end and build a 182,000-sf lifestyle center that will feature a 14-screen theater and new stores. The Roseville City Council approved the plan from Jones Lang LaSalle, the manager of the one-million-sf regional mall, earlier this week. The plan is significantly smaller than a plan presented late last year in which the 170,000-sf Mervyn’s store would be reused and 132,679 sf would be added for a total space of 302,679 sf.

John Schupp, senior vice president of retail for Jones Lang LaSalle, says that the growing influence and popularity of lifestyle centers prompted the changes. The popularity of Grand Avenue, a popular shopping area in St. Paul, and Tamarack Village in Woodbury, both have proven the popularity of this approach.
