Schnitzer NW Creates, Fills Management Position

BELLEVUE, WA-Schnitzer Northwest LLC lures the former managing director of the local Colliers International office to be its director of property operations, in charge of about nine million sf of office, industrial, and special-use property in the Puget Sound and Greater Portland markets.

BELLEVUE, WA-Schnitzer Northwest LLC has created and filled a new management position within the company. John Gleason, most recently managing director of the local offices of Colliers International, is Schnitzer’s new director of property operations.Gleason is responsible for oversight of property management and operations covering about nine million sf of office, industrial, and special-use property in the Puget Sound and Greater Portland markets. He will direct about 40 property managers, engineers and facilities managers. “It’s an opportunity for increased responsibility,” Gleason tells GlobeSt.com.At Colliers, Gleason was responsible for a staff of 20 handling a 2.2-million-sf portfolio of CBD high-rise, suburban office, industrial and retail properties in the Puget Sound region. Prior to Colliers, he was regional vice president for Divco West, in charge of more than eight million sf of property concentrated in California.”I’m going from a lot of smaller accounts [at Colliers] to a lot of high-profile accounts with Schnitzer northwest,” Gleason says. “This is more in line with what I was doing at Divco, running their West Coast operations.”One of the most notable projects of Gleason’s career was the acquisition, renovation, releasing and sale of 1900 and 1901 Avenue of the Stars, two high-rise towers totaling 1.1 million sf in Century City. Divco acquired the buildings in April 1999 for about $200 million. They were outdated and 25% vacant at a time when average vacancy was closer to 8%. Through renovation and leasing, Gleason says the value of the property was increased by $100 million in less than two years. Schnitzer Northwest managing partner Dan Ivanoff was not available Wednesday for comment on Gleason’s hiring.
