Prior to the opening of its Orion headquarters, Cobasys was located in three facilities in Troy. "By consolidating our product development, systems engineering, and testing under one roof, we are able to leverage our resources to further develop andadvance the commercialization of nickel metal hydride battery energy storage systems," says Thomas Neslage, president and CEO. "The need to move toward alternative power systems is driving our sales and employment growth," he says.

The company also has a new 170,000-sf manufacturing facility in Springboro, OH, near Dayton, where it produces advanced NiMH battery Systems for transportation markets, including hybrid electric vehicles.

Cobasys is a joint venture between Chevron Technology Ventures, and Energy Conservation Devices Inc. In June 2004, the State of Michigan approved a tax credit valued at approximately $3.9 million to win the project. Orion Township also approved a 50% abatement of the company's new personal property taxes valued at $92,000 for 12 years.
