Development of $12M Art Facility Finishes

MT. RAINIER, MD-Development of the Mt. Rainier Artist Lofts has officially wrapped up. The project–a joint effort by Prince George’s County, the Prince George’s County Redevelopment Authority, the State of Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, Artspace Projects Inc., Gateway CDC, the City of Mt. Rainier and Apollo Housing Capital LLC–cost $11.7 million to complete.

Situated on Rhode Island Ave. along Prince George’s County’s Rte. 1 corridor, Mt. Rainier offers both live/work artist loft space, as well as exhibition and event space in the form of a community room. The development, designed by the architectural firm of Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, is part of the county’s Gateway Arts District program. US Rep. Steny Hoyer said last year the project is an “effort that will reuse abandoned, boarded up buildings and storefronts and replace them with quality homes and stores that will make this area more like a neighborhood.”
