Steeplechase Project Another Challenge

EAGAN, MN-After finally winning approval for its 95-unit housing development after nearly two years of revising and presenting plans, Toll Brothers faces a neighborhood group's environmental challenge.

EAGAN, MN-Last month, the Eagan City Council approved a housing development called Steeplechase of Eagan that includes 58 townhouses and 37 single-family houses on the former Diamond T horse ranch. But before construction can start, it faces another challenge–a neighborhood group petitioned the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources to take up their appeal of the wetlands replacement plan the Eagan city council approved last month.

The group objects to the destruction of wetlands, which at 0.4 acres, is just a tiny fraction of the 37-acre site west of Pilot Knob Road and just south of Cliff Road. The group, called the Friends of the Diamond T property, argues the developer should reduce the size of its project by four to five units to allow the wetlands to remain. Toll Brothers already had downsized its plan from 109 housing units to 95 units to win the city’s approval.
