DETROIT-Farmer Jack supermarkets says 18 of its stores in Michigan and Ohio will be closed or sold within 90 days. The employees at the stores were informed of the move earlier this week.

The closings are part of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co.’s plans to divest itself of its Midwest and Canadian operations. A&P says 71 Detroit-area Farmer Jack stores that are successful will stay open while the parent company shops for a buyer.

The Michigan stores are located in Southfield, Chelsea, Saline, Center Line, Shelby Township, Clawson, Grand Blanc, Bad Axe, Sandusky, Midland, Saginaw, Port Huron, Flint, Ypsilanti and Waterford. The Ohio stores are in Sylvannia, Holland and Perrysburg.
