LAKE ODESSA, MI-Sunny Fresh Foods has broken ground on a $1.4 million expansion project in the Lansing-area Village of Lake Odessa. Sunny Fresh supplies eggs and egg-related products to restaurants and other food services companies. The plant in Lake Odessa serves as a process and distribution plant for the shipment of eggs.
The Village says it will use a $1.1 million Community Development Block Grant to make the water and sewer upgrades necessary to accommodate the expansion. The Village will provide an additional $200,000 for the project.
"We have worked with Sunny Fresh and the Village for a long time to make this project a reality," says Don Jakeway, Minnesota Economic Development Council president and CEO. "These jobs will be a great addition to the Lake Odessa community."
Added Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm in a released statement, "The food and agriculture industries are critical to our economy, providing jobs for thousands of Michigan workers and adds significantly to our economy. The expansion of Sunny Fresh will create new employment opportunities and a welcome boost to Lake Odessa in particular." The village said the expansion would create 57 new jobs.
