MINNEAPOLIS-Dick's Sporting Goods, and Steve & Barry's University Sportswear will open at Burnsville Center in the 125,000-sf of space previously occupied by Mervyn's department store, according to the mall's owner and manager.

Tennessee-based CBL & Associates Properties Inc. said Steve & Barry's University Sportswear is scheduled to open this fall in the lower level of the former Mervyn's space, and Dick's Sporting Goods, one of the nation's largest full-line sporting-goods retailers, will occupy the building's upper floor sometime in 2006.

Last November, CBL & Associates bought the former Mervyn's space from May Department Stores. Target closed nine Mervyn's stores in the Twin Cities and included the locations in its deal to sell Marshall Field's department stores to May Department stores a year ago.

Dick's Sporting Goods also has moved into the area Galyan's stores after its purchase of the company last year and is looking at several other former Mervyn's spaces in the Twin Cities. Among those available include Eden Prairie Center in Eden Prairie, Southdale Center in Edina, Midway Marketplace in St. Paul and Brookdale Center in Brooklyn Center. Steve & Barry's also a Twin Cities store at Northtown Mall in Blaine.
