SUGAR LAND, TX-New Balance, an athletic footwear and apparel retailer, will open its second store in the Houston metro in Sugar Land Town Square. The retailer signed a five-year lease for 2,000 sf in the 32-acre project.

The New Balance store, which will be located at 16170 City Walk, is expected to open in August, according to Cyndee Smith, a retail broker with Shelby/Estus Realty Group. She represented New Balance in the negotiations while the developer of Sugar Land Town Square, Planned Community Developers, was represented internally by Steve Ewbank.

"Sugar Land is a big growth area and the town square offered the kind of co-tenancy that (New Balance) was looking for," Smith tells GlobeSt.com. She adds the surrounding area has the right kind of demographics for a New Balance store. The only store right now is in the Galleria submarket.

New Balance is one of 25 specialty stores and restaurants in Sugar Land Town Square, located at Texas 6 and US Highway 59. Rent in the project ranges from the high $20s to the mid-$30s.
