Traffic Help Coming for Six Corners Projects

CHICAGO-The $17-million grant through the federal Transportation Equity Act is expected to clear congestion at the Portage Park intersection of Irving Park Road, Cicero and Milwaukee avenues, where the city is spending $4 million to assist two redevelopment projects.

CHICAGO-A $17-million grant is expected to improve traffic through the Six Corners intersection on the Northwest Side, where the city already is investing $4 million in tax increment financing to aid two redevelopment projects. After earmarking $3 million in 1997 to help build the Marketplace at Six Corners retail center, the city council last year approved $900,000 in tax increment financing to help redevelop the historic Klee Building.

The Klee Building, on the north side of Irving Park Road and bounded by Cicero and Milwaukee avenues, is part of a 64-unit condominium project that includes 20,000 sf of retail space. Inland Real Estate Corp.’s 117,000-sf Marketplace at Six Corners in the 4600 block of Irving Park Road, anchored by a Jewel Food store, is 100% occupied.
