WACONIA, MN-Medallion Cabinetry Inc. said Thursday that it plans to add a 275,000-sf manufacturing plant to serve the East Coast and Southeast regions of the country with its kitchen and bath cabinetry. The company plans to open, within six months, a new manufacturing plant in Culver, IN. All but one of the locally based company's four plants are in Minnesota.
The plant will produce kitchen and bath cabinetry, parts and accessories and is expected to employ up to 330 people in the first three years of operation. The 275,000-sf facility will feature the latest technology for the precision fabrication and assembly of its cabinetry products.
"The Culver facility marks a significant expansion for Medallion," says Tom Cook, Medallion's executive vice president and general manager. The plant, he says, will allow Medallion to both expand capacity and increase shipping efficiencies.
Medallion Cabinetry makes semi-custom cabinetry for residential remodeling and building, and the products are distributed nationwide through kitchen and bath dealers as well as some home centers.
Medallion employs more than 1,000 employees and operates manufacturing and wood finishing facilities in Waconia, Shakopee and New Ulm, MN as well as in Independence, OR. Medallion is a wholly owned subsidiary of Elkay Manufacturing Co. of Oak Brook, IL. The Elkay Cabinetry Group includes Medallion, Yorktowne Cabinetry and Mastercraft Cabinetry and is the fourth largest cabinetry group in the US. Medallion is the largest component of this group.
The new plant was revealed Thursday by company officials and officials from the State of Indiana, including Patricia Miller, the state's secretary of commerce and chief executive of the Indiana Economic Development Corp. She cited Medallion Cabinetry as "a prime example" of the type of company the state is trying to attract.
