ROCKVILLE, MD-City officials completed the annexation of a 17-acre parcel, owned by the Washington Metropolitan Transportation Authority and neighboring the Twinbrook Metro station, from Montgomery County, in an effort to move ahead with plans for the 26-acre mixed-use project known as Twinbrook Commons. The project will now be operated under a single government entity.

The residential, office and retail endeavor is being spearheaded by the JBG Cos., which plans to spend an estimated $400 million to complete. In a decision late last year that approved JBG’s development proposal, officials of Rockville’s Planning Commission concluded that, “annexation into the city will facilitate the Twinbrook Commons development project and unify the proposal under a single jurisdiction.”
