"This facility is the most recent example of St. John Health's continuing commitment to bring superior healthcare services back into the city to improve the quality of life for Detroiters," says Anthony E. Munroe, president of the 285-bed Riverview Hospital,on Jefferson.
The facility will house outpatient services, including a vascular access center, a laboratory, a physical rehabilitation center; hospital administrative offices; a pharmacy; physician offices; and a durable medical equipment retail store. Construction is expected to be completed in June 2006. According to Nick Checota, chief operating officer of Landmark Healthcare Facilities LLC, minority-ownedcompanies will play a significant role in the design and construction. The general contractor is White Construction of Detroit, and the lead architect is William E. Brazley & Associates of Olympia Fields, IL. Both are minority-owned firms.
A total of 92% of the building was under commitment when the developer broke ground the first week of June. The hospital will lease the outpatient space, which makes up 37% of the building. Individual physicians and other affiliated companies will lease the remainder.
"The hospital originally conceived a 40,000-sf building," Checota says, "but requested that Landmark add an additional 22,000 sf because of strong demand from physicians interested in moving into the new space." The Healthcare Finance division of Cleveland-based KeyCorp is financing the project.
