The move will allow the company to consolidate its current multi-structure headquarters in DC--with its main building being at 1231 25th St. NW--in one location. The Crystal City facility is also large enough to provide the news and information publisher, formerly known as the Bureau of National Affairs, with ample room for expansion. According to news released by the office of Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner, BNA will spend $110 million on the relocation.

Also referred to as Crystal Mall Office Building 2, the 11-story structure at 1801 S. Bell sits less than four miles from BNA's current location. "As a major media organization reporting on Washington, we will continue to have our sights firmly fixed on the workings of government, and Crystal City affords excellent access to the major government agencies we cover," says Paul Wojcik, CEO of BNA.

The news is good for Northern Virginia, too, in light of the US Department of Defense's recently announced list of military base communities to be affected by the 2005 round of Base Realignment and Closure; 23,000 Pentagon workers are to be relocated out of leased office space in Arlington. "This is a great time to bring good news to Crystal City, even as we work with our congressional partners to make the case to federal BRAC commissioners about proposals that could impact this community especially hard," Warner says. BNA expects to set up shop in its new home in 2007.
