KEARNY MESA, CA-The Metabolife Building has a new owner. Tapestry Solutions, a software applications firm, has acquired the 36,000-sf property for an undisclosed price. The embattled Metabolife International originally put its San Diego headquarters on the block in August of last year, with a listing price of $12 million. For the last few years, the dietary supplement company has been under criminal investigations and lawsuits over its ephedra diet pill.As for the property, Tapestry Solutions acquired it from Area 52 LLC. Area 52 developed the three-story property, which sits on 1.73 acres, in 2001. Metabolife will lease back a portion of the building for several months. In a separate transaction, Metabolife is selling the furniture and equipment to the buyer at undisclosed price and terms.Among the property’s amenities are a three-story open atrium, a reflecting pool, a two-story reception lobby, vaulted ceilings, a fitness center and a truck dock. The property also counts 116 parking spaces.”The Metabolife building is one of the most spectacular office buildings in San Diego,” says Jeff Rice of CB Richard Ellis. “It is truly an architectural masterpiece.” Among its other features are third floor executive offices, which feature “a massive zinc-alloy, barrel roof, vaulted ceiling with a large skylight, a two-story open atrium between floors and an executive board room,” according to a report from CB Richard Ellis.Rice, Paul Lafrenz, Don Mitchell and Jim Garvin of CB Richard Ellis represented Area 52 LLC while Mickey Morera of Burnham Real Estate represented Tapestry Solutions.
