GlobeSt.com UPDATE: State Shutdown Ends

ST. PAUL-After leaving the state out of business for more than a week, state legislators struck a compromise $30-billion budget over the weekend. Both houses of the Minnesota Legislature passed a temporary funding measure to end the shutdown.

ST. PAUL-A marathon negotiating session over the weekend produced an end to the State of Minnesota’s first shutdown. Both houses of the Minnesota Legislature passed bills Saturday that allowed for temporary funding measures to allow the some 9,000 idled workers to return to their jobs. Some state services were restored over the weekend, such as highway rest stops.

“Now we are ready to get back to business in Minnesota, to educate our children, to control government spending, to control government growth, and to grow jobs,” Gov. Tim Pawlenty said at a news conference over the weekend.
