Total merchandise sales for the month increased 6.9%to $734.4 million. Specifically, same-storemerchandise sales in the United States for for June2005 increased 5.9%, building on a 5.5% increase inJune 2004.
Gasoline sales increased 13.2% to $412.4 million,while the average gallons sold per store increased4.1% and the average retail price of a gallon ofgasoline for June 2005 was $2.19, compared to $2.01 inJune 2004.
On top of its impressive June results, the chain hasre-entered Manhattan after an extended absence.According to 7-Eleven, the opening of its first newstore coincides with the company's 78th anniversaryyear and 40th birthday of the Slurpee.
Beyond the new Manhattan stores and the infamous brain freeze provided by Slurpee, 7-Eleven's June 2005 results bode well for its second quarter results. The chain posted same-store merchandise sales of 4.6% for the first quarter 2005 on top of a 6.1% increase infirst quarter 2004. During the second quarter, thechain grew to 28,000 stores globally.
